For close to a decade he was a college admissions officer at Williams College, one of the nation’s most rejective liberal arts colleges. His work included reading and evaluating domestic and international admission applications, participating in decision-making admission committees for early decision, regular decision and the waitlist, editing and supervising the development of admission publications, and serving as liaison with athletic coaches. His nine years at Williams gives him a deep understanding of the care and precision involved in building a small entering class out of a large and supremely-qualified applicant pool. Upon leaving the Williams permanent staff he also served as a part-time application reader and admission committee member at both Williams and Amherst College.
Prior to Williams, he served for fourteen years as Associate Dean of Admissions at the University of Redlands, a small, comprehensive university that combines two seemingly incompatible college programs: a traditional liberal arts college with a pre-professional emphasis and a highly unorthodox experimental college. He supervised admission to the Johnston Center for Integrated Studies (the experimental college), and coordinated the awarding of all University of Redlands merit scholarships. His experience at Redlands gave him a fuller appreciation for the striving B student intent on a challenging college experience, and the ways an institution utilizes merit aid to build a strong entering class.
He has been an independent college advisor for ten years and has advised over 100 students.
